The practice of elder law includes the preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney and Advance Health Directives, as well as guardianships, Medicaid planning, estate planning, estate administration, trusts, asset preservation and long term care needs. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life of the aging population, while maximizing independence and supporting families.
Our Services:
Elder Law:
Elder Law is the practice of law that specializes in addressing the needs of individuals as they age. The practice not only involves the elderly client, but also their family members. We combine legal services with practical concerns and limitations. We work with you to consider your current situation, your family’s lifestyle, and your current as well as future legal and care needs. Medicaid planning, VA benefits, nursing home options, and home health care needs are just some of the areas of concern that we address.
If a loved one is ill or has lost the ability to care for himself or herself, we can work with you to have their interests and rights legally protected by getting a guardian or conservator appointed.
Estate Planning:
We help clients prepare for the future, giving consideration to plans while you are alive and after you pass. There are a number of legal documents that every adult should have in place to do this. A Last Will & Testament will appoint someone to settle your affairs and distribute your estate once you’ve passed away. We will review your existing Will at no charge to determine if it continues to address your needs.
A Power of Attorney designates a trusted individual to handle your legal and financial matters if you are unable to do it for yourself. Advance Health Directives permit clients to choose a health care representative to communicate with doctors and medical providers in the event of a medical emergency where you are unable to make your medical wishes known. Both of these documents are critical to have while you’re living, particularly in the event of an emergency or chronic illness.
Additionally we prepare revocable and irrevocable trusts to protect your assets and to guide you to the best options for your present and future needs. A consultation with our firm will enable us to understand your personal circumstances and recommend the appropriate planning tools for you and your family.
Estate Administration:
When a family member or loved one passes away, their estate needs to be settled. Our firm provides services to clients in order to settle an estate including admitting the Last Will and Testament to probate, confirming appointment of the executor or administrator, determining assets and liabilities of the estate and filing necessary tax returns. We also will guide the executor in gathering and distributing assets, paying the decedent’s debts, setting up an estate bank account, and filing the necessary documents with the county surrogate. Our firm works with clients to efficiently settle estates.
Real Estate:
If you are selling your house and need guidance in the process of listing it for sale and completing the sales transaction, we have over three decades of experience in residential real estate, whether it is a house, condominium or co-op. We can assist you in the purchase of a new home, or the refinance of your existing mortgage. If you think a reverse mortgage may be an option for you, we can answer your questions and handle the transaction with you. Deed transfers and real estate services during probate of an estate are services we also provide.
